As some of you might know, but Mel and I have other full-time (and part-time) jobs; all in an attempt to pay the bills and give our kids experiences they will remember for a lifetime. Without divulging what our full-time gigs are, both Mel and I work as fitness instructors at a local fitness club. Last night, as I delivered my speech at the start of a power-yoga class, I told the class about my dreams. I spoke about the weight-gain that occurred over Covid (~40 lbs) and how that element of my life is a consequence of something that I absolutely love…BEER! I told the class that this world is about finding and following your dreams. I spoke about my financial struggles and my hopes that, one day, capital generated from an online store would contribute to the payment of licensing and construction of a physical micro/nano brewery. I told them all to remember their dreams and never lose sight of what makes you happy. Whether that’s an activity, a person, a feeling, a hobby, or a financial goal, if you keep your eyes on your dreams, you will get there eventually. It might not be tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, or next decade; but YOU WILL GET THERE!
I ended the class with a guided meditation where everyone rested in Shavasana with their eyes closed. I asked them to embrace the darkness; find comfort in the black abyss. Far in the distance, a candle flickers, but you cannot see what’s around it. Take a few steps forward, towards the light. The images around the candle are faint and barely recognizable. Take a few more steps closer. As scary as it may be, walking in the pitch-black darkness, the light draws you closer. Before too long, you can see what’s around it surrounds the flame, you can see the outlines and details of what’s flickering in the light. Eventually, the flame lights YOUR face. Eventually, YOU become part of what’s lit by the flicker. YOU begin to radiate with the beauty of the light and you can see your goals and dreams with clarity. And, with that, when that day comes, you will become that flame; radiating happiness and brilliance out to those around you. You will be the inspiration that will give others comfort to walk THEIR path in the dark; towards THEIR candle; towards THEIR dreams!
My dream is still this community, the nectar of beer I hope to provide you, and the loving family and friends who will grow around me.
Please, don’t forget your dreams! I wont forget mine - and I will reach my goal (eventually)!
